To give an indication of the National Fox Welfare Society's commitment to foxes, below is a brief rundown of activities for the period January 2011 to 05th June 2011
Sarcoptic Mange Treatment: The Society sends out treatment, free of charge, to householders willing to feed foxes that are suffering from the terrible condition, Sarcoptic Mange. Foxes that, untreated, would die a long lingering death. This treatment went out to help cure a staggering 1250 foxes in the 5 month period. Because this treatment is sent out free of charge, NFWS incurs the cost; in 5 months we spent in excess of £6,250.00 on these treatments alone! We sent a further 115 treatments out in the five months, at a total of around £500.60 worth, for foxes suffering from other ailments and conditions.
If the above wasn't proof enough of our commitment, in addition NFWS volunteers rescued a further 79 foxes that were seriously ill or injured. Furthermore, to catch still mobile foxes with life threatening conditions, the Society set 68 cage traps. We also cared for rehabilitated or coordinated rescues for 103 fox cubs
Adding all the above together we arrive at an overall total of 1615 foxes directly helped by NFWS in just over 5 months of the year 2011. This is an amazing total of 3233 foxes helped in each month so far of 2011! Of course, this doesn't take into account the number of foxes we have saved from contracting Sarcoptic Mange by treating their family members. Although this figure is hard to quantify, we believe it could run into hundreds in this year alone.
What makes the above figures even more remarkable is that we endeavour to get a rescuer out to a critically injured fox within an hour, thus ensuring that a needy fox is given the urgent attention that it deserves. By supporting the National Fox Welfare Society, you will help us to ensure a sick fox is treated, an injured fox rescued, an orphaned fox cub successfully rehabilitated back into the wild, Also, that our reputation as ·The Fox·s First Emergency Service' is maintained. If you are able to help us continue our work please make a donation by clicking here (Donation) or by purchasing some of our fox merchandise (Fox Merchandise Page)
In anticipation of your support·· we thank you

Tree Destroys Fox Enclosure!
On the 23rd of June 2012 at approx 3.30pm a quarter of a very large tree snapped off in the wind and landed on an occupied fox enclosure, completely destroying it. The four foxes we had inside were unscathed, but because of the structure damage we were unable to get to them, and subsequently they escaped. Although the four were due for release it wasn’t going to be in this area or at this time. Food will be left down each night for them. We considered trying to trap them but was put off this action as we not be able to catch them all. Please see photos below. An estimate of the damage caused runs into thousands!
The tube seen on the left of the photos was the foxes saving grace, had any not been in the tubes asleep it could have all been a very different story!

First Fox Cub for 2013
On Saturday 23rd of March we collected a fox cub that had been handed into Wellidog Rescue in Wellingborough. The male fox cub was actually picked up in a field in Higham Ferrers, Northants and was believed to be a puppy. The ten day old cub was taken to the vets who also thought this was a puppy so contacted Sam at Wellidogs. Sam realised straight away this was indeed a fox not a dog and contacted us.
At time of writing 25th March 2013 the little 12 day old approx cub is doing great (fingers firmly crossed) He is eating well roughly every four hours and all seems ok in the toilet department. We have yet to name the little cub, but will do so once we can see a little bit more of his personality other than Eat, Toilet Sleep. An update on our first fox cub for 2013 will follow.
